Our Founders’ Board

“I also admire the staff’s commitment to helping those in need.”

Ellen Watson

What initially drew you to the Center and inspired you to become a member of the Board?

Christine’s enthusiasm and commitment to the vision of she and Shirley was very compelling. I really enjoyed getting to know the other board members and staff. I especially looked forward to helping with fund raising, always exploring new ideas with the group.

What has been the most meaningful part of being connected to the Center?

I have valued the ability to meet and learn about many clients who have benefited from the center’s services. I also admire the staff’s commitment to helping those in need. It is impressive to note how many of the staff have been with the center for many years. When I attend the closing day of Camp Mille, I am in awe of the ability of the staff to connect these young people, all in a very unique and often most likely a lonely circumstance. I am sure many kids become life long friends based on the camp and group sessions. It was always a pleasure to spend time with everyone!

Why have you continued to support this special mission over so many years?

I will always enthusiastically support this program. When I reflect on my many years of involvement with the Center, I feel fortunate to have had to opportunity to contribute to the very important vision of Christine and Shirley. Executing the many fundraisers, from the event at Drew and Melissa’s farm, wine cheese and chocolate, the jewelry party at my home, and emceeing the fashion show with Dave Roberts to name a few, was always a wonderful way to connect with all of the board members and supporters of the Center. Camp Millie will always be a way for me to stay connected, what a fantastic program!

What are your hopes for people who come to the Center?

I hope that no one feels alone in their grief journey.

What would you say to someone who was considering volunteering with us in programming, on committees, or as a member of the board?

It is extremely rewarding and can renew your spirit to help someone through the grief process with fundraising, always exploring new ideas with the group.
